Joanna Wojtyła MD, has 15 years of experience in performing vision correction procedures. She specialises in providing comprehensive care to patients with visual impairment and conditions that cause refractive errors. The doctor carries out laser vision correction procedures using all globally available methods. In 2010, Joanna Wojtyła became the first doctor in Poland to perform the FemtoLasik procedure, and in 2013, she joined forces with Danuta Horodyńska MD to carry out the first Smile procedure in the country.

I’ve always been aware that a vision defect certainly does not make life any easier. However, the pandemic made me fully realise how much poor eyesight actually affected my daily comfort – opting for glasses that fog up because of the mask or risking complications due to the use of contact lenses was no choice at all.

I made an appointment at the MAVIT Medical Centre based on the enthusiastic opinions of my colleagues who had previously undergone laser vision correction.

At some point, my eyesight also started to deteriorate. Wearing glasses on film sets is out of the question, while using lenses during scenes shot in water or dust is simply dangerous for the eyes.

Together with Doctor Joanna Wojtyła, we decided that I should opt for a procedure that would not only cure my slight myopia, but also solve the recently observed problem with seeing clearly at close distances. The MAVIT Medical Centre in Warsaw is one of the few facilities in Poland where the specialists have started using a device that enables both accurate visualisation and assessment of biomechanical properties of the cornea as well as non-contact measurement of intraocular pressure. In addition, we make sure that all patients over 42 years of age undergo an OCT scan, so that we can check whether a given person suffers from retinal degeneration and thus guarantee that the qualification for vision correction is as safe as possible.

The laser vision correction procedure is considered very safe. For certain sports, professional requirements and difficulties with adaptation to traditional correction, it is often the only alternative to improve visual acuity. With the proper and meticulous qualification of patients before the procedure, the risk of complications is minimal, but, as with any medical procedure, some side effects may occur. What are the effects of laser vision correction?

A laser vision correction procedure is a solution that provides a significant improvement in vision and allows you to quit wearing glasses or contact lenses altogether – usually for life. This is a huge convenience! Although the initial cost may seem higher, in the long run, this procedure may prove more cost-effective than regularly spending on new glasses or lenses. Physical activity after laser vision correction

The laser vision correction procedure is considered very safe. Complications occur in less than 1% of cases and are reversible. However, it should be noted that recovery after the procedure is just as important as the procedure itself. One of the recommendations is to reduce physical activity. What are the medical recommendations after laser vision correction?

Laser vision correction is considered one of the safest procedures. It results in lasting improvement in vision provided that the patient follows the instructions after the procedure to allow the eyes to return to balance. What does recovery after laser vision correction involve and when can I expect complete healing?

Get to know the most common questions and answers regarding laser vision correction!

A procedure is only carried out if the defect has not changed for at least a year before the planned surgery. Operating on a stable defect guarantees that it will not return after the surgery.

Lasers used for vision correction do not penetrate deep into the tissues of the eye; they have a very limited and tightly controlled range of action. Unfortunately, as with any surgery, intra- and post-operative complications can occur. The overall risk is 1-2% (ranging from mild to rare significant deterioration of vision).
The risk of such complications decreases with careful qualification, operator experience and proper postoperative management.

The result and the possibilities of correction depend on the preliminary examinations carried out, the age, and the needs of the patient. Satisfactory results can be achieved with the above defect if a compromise solution is used for near and far vision.

An unsuccessful refractive lens exchange requires an individual approach.
It may be necessary to replace the lens with another one.

Laser vision correction does not cure ametropia.

The floaters effect is not related to laser vision correction, but to changes in the vitreous body.

Depending on the type and fit, contact lenses can deform the cornea and alter refractive results. So it is recommended that contact lens wear be discontinued a few to several days prior to corneal imaging.

That’s true. We change the refraction on the cornea; we do not reshape the whole eyeball. The inside of the eye remains the same, so if the condition of the eye’s fundus is the reason for restrictions in playing sports, these restrictions will remain regardless of the type of correction performed.

In most cases, the procedure is performed once in a lifetime and the effect is permanent. However, the treatment does not prevent other eye diseases.

The procedure is painless – the patient is anaesthetised locally using eye drops. What is more, the latest methods of laser vision correction ensure that the patient begins to feel comfortable already within 5-6 hours after the procedure.

For vision correction, patients are anaesthetised using eye drops – general anaesthesia is not required for this type of procedure.

After vision correction, patients can become pregnant and give birth naturally without any problems (provided there are no other contraindications).
